Yucatan Adventure Board

Setup Helps and Instructions:

Question: So why the strange design? Its not the same shape as the game I play!

Answer: Yes it is actually! It looks odd because you may not be used to seeing the space where your tiles go. This shape is the shape of the 5-6 player expansion of the game! So you want to play the 4-player version instead? Simple - see description below and check out the gallery images by click the product image above.

Question: How do I set up the game for a 4 player game, a 5-6 player game and what if I have the 3rd edition versus the 4th edition?

Answer: Simple, see the descriptions below and they images they refer to.

Setup #1: For the 5-6 player game on the 3rd edition you simply put the pieces in the spots and put the ports in on the edges (see image 1)

This is what this board was designed to do! It holds in tiles snuggly and lets you do what you were designed to do: work your friends over! This set up is very very easy!

Setup #2: For a 4 player game on the 3rd edition you fill in the tiles on two sides with the ports to make it the 4-player size (see image 2)

Please note you can also put more water tiles along the edges if you'd like on the port spots, but you don't need to. You still get a nice tight fit on the pieces and they stay in place much better than without a border or with a flimsy border that bows really badly after a few plays.

Setup #3: For the 5-6 player game on the 4rd edition you simply put the pieces in the spots and put the ports in on the edges (see image 3):

Note the ports are from the 4th edition here, so they are small little pieces. The bad news is they don't fit snug, the good news is you can move them around and customize the ports like you can in the 3rd edition. Why they changed this set up in the 4th editions beyond us. Port variability Makes this game even greater!

Setup #4: For the 4 player game on the 4th edition you will need to do as in setup #2. You fill in the tiles on two sides with the ports to make it the 4-player sized. Unfortunately the 4 player version of the 4th edition does NOT come with the extra water tiles as the 3rd edition does. So what can you do? Well use some extra tiles if you have any of the other expansions at all instead, or use the River Expansion Tiles or any other tiles. If you have only the 4th edition and no other expansions we recommend you go get a $4 expansion like the River, or one of the other expansions, you will use it a ton anyway and it will give you the extra tiles to set up just like in setup #2.

Please note that these boards are "tight" and have a tendency to bow slightly the first few times they are played on. Most players find putting 2-3 cans of soup on the board during the first set-up and for the first 20 minutes of the game helps it to lay flat forever after. Also the board is best stored folded up and underneath other games, rather than on top or vertically. Storing under other games ensures the board will stay flat for future play.
