In the north of the United States at the beginning of the 19th century, farming on the upper Mississippi is not an easy task, but it is a time of innovation and expansion. The technological advances in the field of river boats open up completely new possibilities for you! You ship your various crops along the Mississippi further and further south, where there are valuable orders. In New Orleans, you hire commissioners to sell your goods and help and advise you on business matters. Using your manpower skillfully, gaining the Harbor Master's favor, taking advantage of opportunities right now and keeping an eye on your fellow players is the key to success in building your own empire on the mighty Mississippi River!

Workers cultivate the fields, the harvest is stored in barns and a paddle steamer moored at the quayside with a loud pounding of his steam engine. Couples greet each other after the long time they have been separated and dogs are barking and running around among the people. After the first hustle and bustle has begun, dockers start filling the holds of the steamer with the crops from the barns, because the next morning it should go on. A long journey on the Mississippi is about to begin, at the end of which, in New Orleans, the fruits of your work will hopefully be paid in cash!

Riverboat by Michael Kiesling puts you in the 19th century on a farm in northern America *. On this you provide with your workers that the fields with different fruits are ordered and harvested. The harvested fruits are then loaded onto the namesake "riverboats" and shipped with them to New Orleans. In addition, you can upgrade your farm with wells and barns, train your workers as commissioners, and send them to New Orleans. All this will earn you victory points and hopefully help you to win.

At the beginning of each round, players choose phase cards in turn until all are distributed. After that these phases are played out in sequence, whereby the respective player, who has chosen them, acts first in this phase. In the first phase, the free workers are deployed to different colored fields of the farm. The colors are random, but the same for all players. In phase two, the players will immediately start to order the fields. However, of course, only in the fields, something can be grown on which at this time, a worker is. As there are double and triple fields, hopefully players have taken care to position workers in groups as well. After cultivation, the harvesting and loading of the river boats takes place in phase three. Players must be aware that they must always completely fill the hold; and with only one kind! So if a player wants to load a 6er river boat, he hopefully has 6 fields of a crop that he can harvest. After the boats have been sent on trips, each player has the opportunity in phase four to grab a favorable opportunity. Eventually, additional victory points can be retracted. This happens then in phase five. Appraisers can be used on their own farm, or on the previously mentioned favorable opportunities. The resulting victory points are game crucial! After four rounds, it then shows which player was able to get the most out of the Mississippi and is the winner of the round.
