What the jeep was to the US soldiers serving in World War Two, so was the Huey UH-1D "Slick" during the conflict in Vietnam. However, no one could have foreseen how critical a role the Huey played in the war effort, flying over 36,145,000 sorties during the course of the conflict.
Not only were the UH-1 responsible for carrying thousands of US soldiers into battle but it also played a key role in transporting the wounded by medevac, near 400,000 in Vietnam compared to 17,000 during the Korea War.
