GE743 Panzergrenadier Platoon (Afrika)
Afrika Korps Panzergrenadiers - Always short of equipment the well led Afrika Korps inflicted many defeats on the British and Dominion troops up until El Alamein, October 1942. Contains: 1 Officer, 4 NCOs, 1 Panzerknacker, 6 MG gunners, 6 MG loaders, 10 Riflemen, 1 Small and 6 Medium bases
These brave soldiers fight without the benefit of armour. Although they drive to the battlefield in their trucks, they fight on foot. Their usual role is to attack fortified defences to create a breakthrough for the Panzers, and to hold the ground they take with the Panzers as a counter-attack reserve.
The Panzergrenadier Platoons of the Deutsches Afrikakorps were all mounted in trucks allowing them to keep up with the tanks in battle.
The Panzergrenadier companies are organised on a basis called 'Few men, many weapons'. Each battalion formed four identical companies rather than three infantry companies and a heavy weapons company.
Each company had two or three Panzergrenadier Platoons and a mix of heavy and anti-tank platoons.
As well as representing the platoons of the Panzergrenadiers in Africa, the GE743 pack can also be used to represent other units fighting in tropical uniforms such as the later infantry divisions in Tunisia, Sicily and southern Italy in 1943.
In Flames Of War
The Grenadier platoon has plenty of firepower, every team has an MG34 machine gun making them MG teams with ROF 3, that's a lot of bullets in the air. Be sure to take advantage of this, leap frog your platoons when moving forward so you are always using that awesome firepower from at least one platoon.
